On Monday, Rep. Pat Fallon (R-TX) filed articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas after two years of record-breaking mass migration.

House Resolution 8 is described as a bill that focuses on “Impeaching Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security, for high crimes and misdemeanors.”

“Since day one, Secretary Mayorkas’ policies have undermined law enforcement activities at our southern border,” Fallon explained to Fox News last week. “From perjuring himself before Congress about maintaining operational control of the border to the infamous ‘whip-gate’ slander against our border patrol agents, Secretary Mayorkas has proven time and time again that he is unfit to lead the Department of Homeland Security.”

“His willful actions have eroded our immigration system, undermined border patrol morale, and jeopardized American national security,” the Texas congressman said. “He has violated the law and it is time for him to go.”

The unprecedented move is the first time a secretary has been impeached since 1876 when Secretary of War William Belknap faced charges of criminal disregard, according to the House of Representatives.

The first article of the impeachment proceeding alleges that the DHS secretary has failed at enforcing the “Secure the Fence Act of 2006,”which states that the secretary is responsible for “maintain[ing] operational control over the entire international land and maritime borders of the United States.”

The second impeachment article accuses the secretary of lying when he appeared in front of Congress on April 26 and November 15.  According to the resolution, the secretary is “in violation of his constitutional oath, willfully provided perjurious, false, and misleading testimony to Congress.”

The final impeachment article accuses Mayorkas of slandering the border patrol agents who attempted to turn back Haitian migrants in Del Rio, Texas in 2021. Mayorkas, along with the Biden administration, peddled the lie that border patrol agents were whipping migrants while on horseback.

“The 511-page report by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Personal Responsibility found ‘no evidence that [Border Patrol agents] involved in this incident struck, intentionally or otherwise, any migrant with their reins,’” Fallon wrote, as reported by Fox News. “Secretary Mayorkas slandered his own Border Patrol agents and TXDPS Troopers involved in this incident, contributing to a further decrease in already-low morale among agents.”

The House Republicans are willing to take this unprecedented action in order to secure the southern border and protect Americans from the consequences of an open border. Ousting Alejandro Mayorkas would prove to be a critical step in changing the way the Biden administration handles the border and thus lays the groundwork for border security in the future.
